Trees or shrubs, monoecious. Exudate (from cut stems) present, white. Unarmed*. Glabrous throughout. Stipules free*, simple, unlobed, entire *, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands. Leaves often crowded towards twig tips, otherwise evenly distributed along branch, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin toothed, teeth glandular, blade not pellucid-punctate, with or without a pair of glands at base on upper surface, with (or without?) marginal glands on lower surface; venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petioles present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with axis, terminal, raceme-like, bracts not leaf-like*, green; bracteoles hair-like; floral buds initially covered by their large bracts, later on erect; pedicels absent or present, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 3; partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 3, partially fused; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 3, free or partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, completely fused (stigmas may be free)*, style entire, stigmas 3, entire, not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
