Inflorescence with axis, axillary, terminal or subterminal, raceme–like, solitary, bisexual, female flowers at base, male above, terminal flower often female; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 4, valvate, free, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 4, free, filaments short or slightly fused at base; anther with conspicuous modification; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 4, often 5–6 in terminal flower, imbricate, partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, at the base of and separated from one another by the wide, dilated style, outer surface warty, ovules per locule 1; styles completely fused into a large, wide, funnel-like structure, toothed at rim; staminodes absent. Fruit probably dehiscent, warty*?, greenish to brown; seed unknown.
