Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, leaf glands absent; venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole present, long, with or without swellings or bends at base or apex, without glands. Inflorescence with or without axis, terminal, in clusters or small, branched groups, with several male and 1–2 female flowers, flowers large; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 2–3; valvate, partially fused, greenish; petals 6–13, greenish, hairy; disc glands free or fused at base, outside the staminal whorl (extrastaminal); stamens 30–100, free; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 2–3; valvate, partially fused, greenish, falling early; petals 4–5, greenish, hairy, falling early; disc surrounding the ovary, annular, deeply lobed; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3*, free* or partially fused*, entire*, short; stigmas entire or shortly 2-branched, not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo not minute, narrow, cotyledons not minute, leaf-like.
