Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, glands absent. Inflorescence without axis, axillary, male flowers densely clustered, females solitary or few together, or sexes mixed*; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, articulated (in female). Male flowers: sepals 4–6, imbricate, free, persistent, greenish; petals 4–6, imbricate, glabrous, greenish; disc surrounding the staminal whorl (extrastaminal), consisting of 10–20 basally fused glands; stamens 5, free or partially fused; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode present. Female flowers: sepals 4–6, imbricate, free, caducous, greenish; petals 4–6, imbricate, glabrous, greenish; disc surrounding the ovary, consisting of 10–20 more or less fused glands; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 2; styles 3*, free or partially fused, 4-branched (i.e. each style divided, ultimate divisions per locule 4), styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes present or absent. Fruit dehiscent, wrinkled, glabrous, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering, nor membranous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
