Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple (1-foliolate), unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire and hairy, blade not pellucid-punctate; glands absent*, venation pinnate, domatia absent*; stipel-like appendages present (often in pairs) or absent. Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with or without or axis, axillary, male flowers in cymose clusters, female flowers solitary; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 5 – 9, in 2 whorls, imbricate, free*, greenish; petals 0; disc interstaminal, cushion-shaped with stamens inserted in cavities; stamens (13) 15 (19), free; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: pedicels long; sepals 6, in 2 whorls, imbricate, free*, falling early, greenish; petals 0; disc annular, surrounding ovary; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 2; styles 3, partially fused, entire, styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, veined, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
