SUMMARY
Tree, dioecious or rarely monoecious. Exudate absent*. Unarmed*. Indumentum present, hairs simple. Stipules free*, simple, unlobed, entire *, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands. Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, compound; leaflets unlobed, base symmetrical, margin toothed or entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, glands absent, venation pinnate, domatia absent*; stipel-like appendages present (minute and irregular). Petiole long, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with or without axis, axillary, male inflorescences arising from the axils of fallen leaves, at the same time as the new leaves, spicate to almost paniculate, female flowers solitary, borne on shoots of current year; bracts (1) 3 (7) per flower, bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present*, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 0; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 3–54, free; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae slightly extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: pedicels long; sepals, 4–5, valvate, free*, greenish; petals 0, disc 0; ovary locules 2, ovules per locule 2; styles 2, completely fused, style column entire, styles or stigmas not flat*, surface papillose; staminodes absent. Fruit indehiscent, unsculptured*, greenish, brown, orange or yellow; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo not minute, storage, cotyledons massive, much folded.
