Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin toothed or entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, leaf glands absent; pinnate-veined or with venation reduced or obscure; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole short, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with axis, on very short shoots, axillary*, raceme-like with 1 female flower at base, many male flowers above, the male part of the inflorescence often falling away later; bracts without glands, not leaf-like*, green; pedicels very short, not articulated*. Male flowers: sessile in bud, later with very short pedicel; calyx almost completely fused, lobes indistinct, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 2–3, short, free or partially fused; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: pedicel very short; sepals 3, free?, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 0, stigmas 3, sessile, free, entire, flattish or not, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
