SUMMARY
Trees, monoecious or dioecious, evergreen. Exudate (from cut stems) absent* or scant*. Unarmed*. Indumentum present, stellate. Stipules minute, free*, simple, unlobed, entire *, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands, falling early. Leaves alternate, simple, unlobed or lobed, base symmetrical, margin entire or toothed, blade not pellucid-punctate, 2-glandular at leaf base on upper surface; with 3 – 7 strong veins from base; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*; glands on leaf base or petiole apex present. Petiole present, long, without swellings or bends at base or apex*. Inflorescence with axis, terminal, panicle-like, bisexual, male and female flowers developing at different times; bracts not leaf-like*, green, falling early. Male flowers: pedicels present, slender; sepals 2–3, valvate, partially fused, greenish; petals 5, imbricate, greenish or white, glabrous; disc glands 5, free, outside the staminal whorl (extrastaminal); stamens 15–20, in 3–4 rows, outer filaments free, inner more or less fused into a short column; anther with conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: pedicels present, not articulated*, short; sepals 2–3 (calyx splitting irregularly into 2 – 3 lobes), greenish; petals 5, imbricate, greenish or white, glabrous; disc surrounding the ovary, annular, shallowly lobed; ovary locules 2, ovules per locule 1; styles 2, free* or partially fused*, more or less shortly 2-branched (i.e. ultimate divisions per locule 2), styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit indehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
