SUMMARY
Trees or shrubs, monoecious. Exudate (from cut stems) present, white. Unarmed*. Glabrous throughout. Stipules free*, simple, unlobed, entire, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands. Leaves often crowded towards shoot tips, otherwise distributed more or less evenly, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire or toothed, blade not pellucid-punctate, with a pair of disc-shaped, sometimes stalked glands at base on upper surface, lower surface without glands; venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*; glands on leaf margin present (sometimes seeming absent). Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands (except those at junction with leaf base). Inflorescence with axis, terminal, raceme-like, with 0–2 female flowers at base, many male flowers above; floral bracts peltate, without glands, not leaf-like*, green; floral buds initially covered by a tunica-like sheath formed by the bracts, this rupturing and breaking down over time; pedicels absent or almost so, not articulated*. Male flowers: almost sessile; sepals 0, or 2–6, partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 1–3, free; anther without conspicuous modification; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sessile; sepals 3–6, partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, completely fused into a short column (stigmas free)*, stigmas 3, free, entire, not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, smooth or horned, greenish to brown, falling to leave the persistent 3-horned base attached to plant; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
