Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, toothed, base symmetrical, blade not pellucid-punctate, leaf glands 0; with 3 – 7 veins from base; domatia absent*; stipel-like appendages absent*. Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence without axis, axillary in upper leaf axils with reduced branchlets, flowers solitary or in few-flowered fascicles, male and female irregularly intermixed; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, long, not articulated*. Male flowers: calyx minute, sepals 3; valvate, free*, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 3 or 6, partially fused; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 3; valvate, free*, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, free* or partially fused*, fringed or slightly incised at apex, styles or stigmas not flat*, surface slightly plumose; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, hairy, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo not minute, narrow, cotyledons needle-like*.
