SUMMARY
Trees or shrubs, dioecious. Exudate absent*. Armed (branches with spiny branchlets). Indumentum present, hairs simple. Stipules free*, simple, unlobed, entire *, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands. Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, fasciculate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin toothed, blade not pellucid-punctate*, leaf glands absent; venation pinnate; domatia present; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence without axis, axillary, male flowers in clusters on very short shoots, female flowers solitary or in pairs; bracts absent or present, not leaf-like*, not glandular, green. Male flowers: pedicels present; sepals 3–4, valvate, free or partially fused, reddish or yellowish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 20–30, free or partially fused; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: pedicels present, articulated or not; sepals 4–5, free or partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 2, ovules per locule 1; styles 2, free or partially fused* styles or stigmas not flat*, surface slightly to strongly plumose; staminodes absent . Fruit dehiscent, smooth?*, glabrous; seed with caruncle, with no other covering or membranous layer.
