Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, 2-glandular at base on upper surface, (occasionally also with a row of glands towards margin on upper surface?); venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole present, long, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with axis*, axillary, terminal or cauline, often panicle-like; flowers small; bracts small, not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, not articulated*. Male flowers: sepals 5; imbricate or valvate, free, greenish; petals 0; disc glands 5, free, outside the stamens (extrastaminal); stamens 5–8, free; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae latrorse in bud; pistillode present. Female flowers: pedicels long; sepals 5; imbricate, free, greenish, falling early; petals 0; disc present, surrounding the ovary, annular; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3*, free or almost so, very short, style shortly 2-branched (i.e. ultimate divisions per locule 2) or almost entire, styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed with or without caruncle, with no other covering or membranous layer; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
