Male flowers: sepals 4; imbricate, free or partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 10–15 (sometimes appears as 6–7), in 2 rows, free; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae extrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 4, imbricate, free, with large basal glands, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 2, ovules per locule 1; styles 2, partially fused, entire, large, conspicuous, spreading, styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes present. Fruit dehiscent (eventually) or indehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo minute or flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
