Male flowers: almost sessile; sepals 3–5, partially fused, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 1, filament short; anther without conspicuous modification; pistillode absent. Female flowers: almost sessile; sepals 6, free, often glandular, greenish; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, completely fused into a very long column (stigmas free)*, stigmas 3, very short, free, entire, not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
