SUMMARY
Small trees, monoecious. Exudate (from cut stems) present, clear. Unarmed*. Glabrous throughout or almost so: indumentum when present usually only on the female flowers, hairs simple. Stipules free*, simple, unlobed, entire *, not spine-like*, not leaf-like*, without glands. Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, leaf glands absent; venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with axis, terminal, racemose, short, usually few-flowered, uni- or bisexual, the latter usually with male flowers above, female below; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, not articulated*. Male flowers: pedicels long, slender; sepals 5, imbricate, partially fused, greenish; petals 5, imbricate, glabrous, greenish; disc 0; stamens > 20, free, filaments very short; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 5; imbricate, free or partially fused, becoming enlarged relative to other floral parts, greenish, persistent in fruit; petals 0; disc 0; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, free* or partially fused*, 2-branched (i.e. ultimate divisions per locule 2), styles or stigmas not flat*, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, Indumentum present, greenish to brown; seed with caruncle, with no other covering or membranous layer; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
