Leaves distributed evenly along stem, alternate, simple, unlobed, base symmetrical, margin entire, blade not pellucid-punctate, 2-glandular at base on upper surface; venation pinnate; domatia absent*; stipel-like structures absent*. Petiole present, swollen or bent at one or both ends, without glands. Inflorescence with axis, axillary or almost terminal, paniculate, many-flowered, robust, bisexual; bracts not leaf-like*, green; pedicels present, articulated. Male flowers: sepals 5; imbricate, partially fused, greenish; petals 5, glabrous, greenish; disc glands 5, outside the staminal whorl (extrastaminal); stamens 8, in 2 rows; anther without conspicuous modification, thecae latrorse in bud; pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals 5; imbricate, partially fused, greenish; petals 5, glabrous, greenish; disc surrounding the ovary, annular (entire or lobed), 5-lobed; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 1; styles 3, free* or partially fused*, style entire*, stigmas shortly 2-branched (i.e. ultimate divisions per locule 2), styles or stigmas not flat, surface smooth*; staminodes absent. Fruit dehiscent, not sculptured*, greenish to brown; seed without appendage, covering or membraneous layer*, not fleshy; embryo flat, not minute, cotyledons leaf-like.
