Petiole present, without swellings or bends at base or apex*, without glands. Inflorescence with axis, axillary, raceme- or panicle-like, bracts leaf-like or not, green. M:ale flowers pedicels absent (flowers sessile), sepals 5, imbricate, partially fused, greenish; petals 5, not valvate, not imbricate, small, scale-like, clawed, glabrous, greenish; disc surrounding the staminal whorl (extrastaminal), annular, lobed; stamens 5, free (always?); anther without conspicuous modification, thecae introrse in bud; pistillode present. Female flowers: pedicels present, articulated, sepals 5, imbricate, partially fused, falling early, greenish; petals 5 (sometimes 0), not valvate, not imbricate, glabrous, greenish; disc surrounding the ovary, annular, lobed; ovary locules 3, ovules per locule 2; styles completely fused into a single column, (stigmas free), stigmas 3, free, shortly 2-lobed or -branched, flat, surface smooth*; staminodes absent.
